Review: Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

For the past two years my absolute favourite foundation has been Bourjois Healthy Mix and I'd still be using it if it weren't impossible to track down.  I'm now back to trying other foundations to see if I can find one just as good.  I have heard so many good things about Revlon's newest foundation, Nearly Naked so when I saw it on sale for $11 I picked one up.  I selected the second lightest shade, 120 Vanilla as it seemed to best match my skintone.  Vanilla is yellow toned and although I have pinkish skin I find warm toned foundations are much more flattering.

My skin type is dry and sensitive.  What I look for in a foundation is light to medium coverage, dewy or stain finish, and something that is moisturising.  Revlon's Nearly Naked appealed to me since it promised to look as if you have no foundation on and that it is meant to appear like your real skin.

Here's a run down of my pros and cons of this foundation:

Pros:
*Affordable and readily available at drugstores, Wal-Mart, Superstore etc.
*This foundation is very liquidy which makes it easy to spread over your face
*Medium, buildable coverage (I didn't need concealer on my acne scars)
*Once dry, feels very light and barely noticable on the skin
*Unscented
*No SPF: SPF in foundations to me is useless as not only does it not protect your skin from the sun it can cause your face to appear stark white in flash photography
*I personally experienced no irritation or breakouts

Cons:
*No pump so you end up wasting product with every use.
*Highlights peach fuzz, dry patches, and pores.
*Can look cakey.
*Very hard to blend; this foundation took me much longer to apply than normal.
*Dries to a powdery finish.

In conclusion I think this is a great foundation for the price but it's not for me.  I have a lot of peach fuzz at the sides of my face and this foundation makes the hairs much more noticeable.  It looks cakey around my nose where I'm prone to dryness.  The skin on my forehead has very little peach fuzz or flaws and this is where the foundation looks best.  If you have normal or oily skin and very little peach fuzz I recommend this but for me it's a total fail :(

  1. Its $11!?! Its only $7 not on sale here at Target... That's just too much, for that product. I haven't worn it myself as I knew it would be watery and lord knows I don't need another foundation :) but I really like you review because I have the peach fuzz too, and nobody ever mentions that!

    1. Lol it was actually $11.99 plus %13 tax. The regular price is $15.49! Most drugstore foundations here are between $15-20.

  2. This is the first time I heard of peach fuzz in a foundation review. I'd like to give it a go because I think it might work for my skin type but I still have a lot of foundation to finish before I get to this. I like how natural it looks on you.

    1. Haha I know I never see anyone mention it but everyone has it so I thought it was worth mentioning. It does look natural from far away but up close it looks kind of cakey and I only put on one layer.

  3. Ah, sorry you're not loving this! I really appreciate the review, though, as I've been eyeing this for a while. I'm selfishly happy that it dries down to a powdery finish- my oily skin just might like it! :)

  4. I think it's great that you mentioned the peach fuzz, and also how it applies differently on different areas of your face!! Makes it a lot easier to tell if a product will work for someone or not.

That's a shame that foundations are so pricey there! :(

    1. Lol I know it's something no one ever mentioned but we all have it in varying degrees. It actually looked pretty funny up close in the areas I had peach fuzz :( Everything is pricey here; thats why we all go to the US for shopping!

  5. Great review! Was tempted by this but think I might not now if it highlights dry patches!
Still think it looks amazing on you though! and OMG you have amazing skin so jealous! whats your secret? :) x

    1. Yeah if you have dry patches stay away! Thank you :) I actually used to have really bad acne and had to go on medication to clear my skin. I'll be doing a post on it soon.

  7. Looks nice in photos (:... i guess it'd be nice for the lack of SPF... but ahh foundation is such a touchy subject for me. I find it hard to find a good foundation (both drugstore and high end). At first, I wanted something that would mattify my skin, but then everything i tried was too drying and made me look cakey, but dewy foundations make me look oily!

    1. There are plently of foundations that are inbetween! I just prefer a dewy foundation and setting it with a loose powder.

  8. really great review! I'm glad i know that it's a powdery finish as I'm not a fan myself of that kind! and i like it better when foundations have pumps as well!

    1. The marketing behind this is so misleading because when I think of "nearly naked" I think of natural looking, not powdery and cakey :(

  9. Thanks for the honest review. I was considering purchasing this but if it looks cakey and if it will highlight my dry patches, its definitely not going to work for me

    1. I haven't heard of anyone disliking this so it's weird to be the first haha. Yeah if you have dry skin it's really not the best :(

  10. I've noticed my peach fuzz being more obvious with this foundation as well. And I also agree with your point about it being cakey looking sometimes. I have to apply it VERY sparingly so it's not really a layering foundation either.

Great review! At least the shade is the right color for you! :)

    1. Awww that's a shame it didn't work for you either :( I'm surprised the second lightest worked not the lightest. The lightest shade is a weird orangey colour yuck.

    1. I think it'd be great for oily skin which is why so many people love it. But if you have dry skin like mine, good thing you didn't get it.

  12. The cons definitely outweigh the pros in this foundation! Shame that it wasn't for you- haha your reference to "peach fuzz" made me laugh! For a foundation that is meant to look natural, it's a disappointment that has a cakey finish. This hasn't been released in Australia yet but when it does, I have a feeling it'll be around the $35 mark (Revlon foundations are $35-$40 here, absurd!)

I have this too, it isn't the worst foundation I have tried but I am with you on hating the lack of pump, I am getting through this foundation pretty fast!

  16. I love this foundation! It's has such a natural finish on me, and it's a perfect summer alternative to my beloved ColorStay foundation where I need less coverage and feeling braver to let my freckles shine through a bit more :D xx

    1. Haha awww :( My boyfriend calls me fuzzy peach (so romantic!). If you do try this I'd recomemnd using something like the Finishing Touch trimer first as this might look ok in pictures but up close it's really obvious on all the little blonde hairs. Thanks Melissa :)
