Hot Weather Must Have: Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder

I'm sure people who have never been to Canada imagine we live in igloos year round but the summer in Ontario is actually boiling hot and humid.  I live in the city and don't have air conditioning so I need something to make my makeup last.  Two years ago I took a makeup course and was introduced to white setting powders and was amazed at how natural they looked and felt on my skin.  Although I loved the powder we used (it was by Kett), it broke me out since it contained rice starch.  Rice and corn starch both break me out and are very common in powder makeup so this was the first white powder I could find that contained neither.

Invisible Loose Setting Powder is admittedly pricey and as someone who is super cheap it pains me to hand over $44 for a face powder.  I have to say it is worth every single penny and I wish I discovered it sooner.  You get a little over 11g of powder which lasts me around 3 months of daily use which is why I reserve it for the summer only.  Laura Mercier recommends that you apply this powder with a fan brush but I always use a velour puff which works better on my dry skin.

I only apply this powder once in the morning and never ever have to touch it up.  The hottest it gets in Toronto is around 35°C/95°F and I tend to walk a lot in the summer yet this stuff keeps my foundation and concealer in place while feeling light.  I put Invisible Loose Setting Powder to the ulitmate test when I went to Florida last June.  It was extremely hot and humid with severe rain everyday yet my face never got super shiney.  After around 8 hours my face looks a bit dewy if it's hot out but not in a bad way.

If you have really oily skin, live in a hot climate, or need your makeup to last a long time (such as for an event) I HIGHLY recommend this stuff.

Availability: Sephora, $44 CAD

  1. I tend to just use either a pressed powder or loose powder foundation to set my liquid foundations/bb creams because I like the added coverage and matte effect. However, if you have dry skin, you might not need something like an additional powder foundation to make your skin more dry. :)

    1. I used to be the same way until I tried this stuff! I now just prefer using a stippling brush for extra foundation coverage if I need it and then this stuff on top.

  2. Must admit I don't really use powder - pure laziness! However, I love Laura Mercier! Seriously underrated in my opinion. I'm yet to find a product which I dislike!

  3. I don't have oily skin but always find that by mid afternoon I need to touch up so it would be great not to have to do that. Laura Mercier isn't too accessible in the UK, mainly higher end Department stores and Space NK but next time I'm in I am going to check this out :) xx

  4. wow I like that it controls the shine and helps keep your face on. Might have to look into this. The main problem I have with some other translucent powders I tried before is that they tend to make my skin look dull.

  6. Ah, glad you're loving this! I tried it years back and for some reason didn't have the best opinion of it. You've tempted me to give it another go! And thanks for the anecdote about Toronto's weather- most people probably don't realize how muggy and hot it gets! :)

    1. I think for most people the Kett one would be great, it looks amazing on the skin! I just must be allergic to rice and corn starch.

Annnyways, that shall never happen again!
I think you mentioned before this is really good, though I can't justify buying another Laura Mercier powder when I have still have the 95% full jar of translucent setting powder :/

  12. great product by the sounds of things. I do blow dries, nails and makeup every day so my makeup must last all day and is constantly in contact with heat so this is one product I have to look out for. Nothing worse then melting makeup through out the day
