Maybelline Color Whisper in Petal Rebel

When Maybelline first released their Color Whispers the one shade I was after was "Petal Rebel" as it's the one used in the ads for the product.  Every time I went to the drug store it would be sold out but about a month ago I managed to find it when I was redeeming my Shopper's Optimum Points, so basically I got it for free :)  Color Whispers are essentially a hybrid between a lipstick and a tinted lip balm.  Maybelline has a a huge shade selection and quite a few light colours which is rare for a drug store brand.

Petal Rebel in my opinion is a unique colour because it's both light and bright at the same time.  As someone who prefers bright or dark lip colours I release there is a time and a place for them so Petal Rebel is a perfect alternative for me.  The only other colour that is similar that I've come across is Benefit's Posie Tint which is drying and uncomfortable on the lips.

The formula of Petal Rebel is very moisturising and comfortable but because of that it comes with some faults.  I need to apply a couple of layers to get the opaqueness that I prefer but that may just be an issue if you have pigmented lips like me.  Another thing I don't like about it is that Petal Rebel has very poor staying power.  I usually pair it with a lipgloss to make it last longer.

Overall Petel Rebel is an affordable and pretty everyday shade.  Although I would recommend the Maybelline Color Whisper line I think I'll get a different colour if I ever run out of this.

  1. It's very pretty on you! I wasn't initially impressed with the Color Whispers but I think it's because I picked a color that was way too light for me - it barely showed up on my lips. But the formula is nice!

  2. I would not buy the color whisper because I thought they were basically the same has the Revlon Lip butters. I think I will go and try them because I like light colors like the nature-luxe lip balm.

  3. I noticed all the shades in the line except for berry ready is super sheer. If you want something more opaque, you have to try berry ready, it's so light weight yet it's crazy pigmented!

  10. I love mine! It looks a totally different colour on me though! The texture is so light and moisturising so I'll forgive the lack of staying power ;) xx

  11. I feel like my comments are redundant, but goodness all lip colors look amazing on you. This one as well. This shade reminds me slightly of MAC's Fanfare. I wish these lippies were more pigmented though.

  17. Glad you're loving this- it looks really pretty on you! I can see what you're saying- it's difficult to be light and bright at the same time, but this shade really is! :)
